Mozilla Labs : Introducing Ubiquity

Mozilla Labs : Ubiquity

If you have not visited Mozilla Labs then you need to stop what your doing and go visit. Don’t worry, I’ll wait.

Ok, now besides having a well designed layout, this extension of Mozilla’s main site is just amazing. It shows you many new projects that they are coming up with and in current development. Many are available for beta downloads.

One of the recent projects I have installed is a little extension to your browser called Ubiquity. This extension makes it possible to accomplish many tasks while emailing people that would normally even take a tech, programming savvy type of person like me a while to do.

With Ubiquity you can do some of the following :

  • Search for a location and insert a google map into your email (no copy and paste or writing of code)
  • Search for what people are saying about restaurants and etc.
  • Highlight text in another language from a website, translate and highlite errors and automatically open up a new email with any one you specify.

There are many more features you will have to watch the video to learn about. Once you install the extension, you will have a tutorial video pop up to show you how to use it.

If you have ever used Quicksilver before to open up programs, then this will be very easy for you to use. You have change the short cut key to pull it up with. Ubiquity comes default as ( alt + space )

Here are some extra links about Ubiquity :

Mozilla has compiled a suggestion list for possible Ubiquity Commands.
